2. Write in 200 words or more about the care, feeding, and housing of your pet. Tell some
interesting facts about it. Tell why you have this kind of pet. Give local laws, if any, relating
to the pet you keep.
Option 1 - Schedule a tour of CAHS for your den to learn about the needs and care of each type of animals
in our facility.
4c. Train a pet in three or more tricks or special abilities. CAHS offers dog and puppy training classes.
You can enroll your pet or attend a training session to learn the importance of dog training and the
types of training offered by CAHS. Visit the Resources section of cahs-pets.org for more information.
CAHS advocates the spaying and neutering of dogs, cats and rabbits. Part of your tour or presentation
will entail discussions about overpopulation, the need for spaying and neutering, and the alarming
number of animals euthanized each year due to overpopulation. This discussion serves as part of your
Breeding, Training, and Showing requirement.
Dog Care
3a. Explain the importance of house training, obedience training, and socialization training for your dog.
CAHS offers dog and puppy training classes. Attend a training session to learn the importance of
house and obedience training and socialization. Visit the Resources section of cahs-pets.org for more information.
3b. Explain what "responsible pet ownership" means.
Option 1 - Schedule a tour of CAHS for you den to learn about what it means to be a responsible pet owner.
3c. Explain what issues (including temperament) must be considered when deciding on what breed of dog to get as a
family pet. CAHS has a group of volunteers called Match Makers, whose role is to help people select the right
animal for their house, schedule and family. Visit CAHS during open hours; weekdays 2-7 and weekends
1-5, to talk with a Match Maker.
5. Explain the correct way to obedience train a dog and what equipment you would need.

6 and 7
Call your veterinarian or a local veterinarian and ask to schedule time to discuss these requirements.
8. Visit a veterinary hospital or an animal shelter and give a report about your visit to your counselor.

9. Know the laws and ordinances involving dogs that are in force in your area.
Schedule a presentation for your den with one of our Humane Agents. By state law, CAHS is the only Frankly County agency with commissioned Humane Agents, who investigate cases of alleged abuse of all animals.
Humane Agents must follow Ohio animal cruelty laws and definitions. They are commissioned and empowered under
Ohio Revised Code for the purpose of prosecuting individuals for animal cruelty and neglect.
